Overview

The Sony a6600 is a crop sensor E mount camera that offers 425 AF points, an 11 FPS shooting speed, 4K recording, and a 24MP sensor. Major key benefits of the a6600 are unlimited recording (limited only by battery/card), 5-axis in-body image stabilization, Eye AF for video, a slightly bigger buffer over prior models, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a deeper grip compared to prior models, and a much better battery life. Do note, however, that the a6600 omits a pop-up flash. Here are some of the other high-level performance features of this innovative little camera:

Ultra Fast Autofocus, Shooting Speed, and Tracking

With continuous AF shooting up to 11 frames per second, the a6600 is a great choice for fast-moving subjects, from major sporting events to casual family events. Get up to 46 frames fired in raw in one continuous burst (up to 116 in JPEG mode). Shoot silently up to 8 FPS, which is a great feature for covering performances. Track your subject with an enhanced Real-Time Eye AF function that reliably recognizes human faces and focuses on your subject's eye (manually choose which eye or let the camera decide for you) even in video mode. In continuous mode, Real-Time Eye AF will track your subject's eye even as they move around or look down. The outstanding accuracy of this feature is a huge benefit to portrait shooters. It's made possible thanks to Sony's processing and sensor technology, which deliver high-precision AF points that cover a much wider field than many conventional DSLRs.

Similar to Real-Time Eye AF, which is suited for portraiture, Real-Time Tracking AF is the perfect tool for capturing sports and wildlife. It keeps your subject in perfect focus so that you don't miss a single dramatic moment out on the field. A recently-developed algorithm can process spatial information based on a range of visual cues: color, distance, brightness, and facial recognition. All of this allows the a6100 to perform seamless tracking of an athlete or animal. Touch Tracking and Touch Focus allow you to select your subject via the LCD screen for both photography and videography.

Boosted Light Collection Sensor Capabilities

The 24.2 megapixel sensor features better circuit processing to increase light collection efficiency, not only making the a6600 easy to use in low light but also allows for a more natural depiction of textures. Noise reduction is also improved for much cleaner imagery at the highest ISO ranges. Color reproduction has also been reworked for much more life-like skin tones and foliage coloring. Portraits and landscapes now look much more natural, crisp, and clear.

Pro-Level 4K Functions

Boasting a full-pixel readout with no pixel binning, the a6600 is equipped to deliver high-resolution 4K video to HDR(HLG) and S-Log/S-Gamut with options for slow motion up to 120 FPS. The high-bitrate (up to 100Mbps for 4K 30p/24p) XAVC video codec ensures professional quality footage in a user-friendly format. With built-in 5-axis image stabilization borrowed from the acclaimed a7 series, this camera compensates for shake thanks to a highly accurate gyro sensor. Capture professional sound with 3.5mm microphone and headphone jacks or flip the screen up 180° to not only more easily frame vlogging-style shots but also control a variety of functions while in front of the camera.

The a6600 features a deeper grip for much better shooting ergonomics. It also boasts a much better battery life the first in the a6000 series to use an NP-FZ100 battery. At only 2.74" deep, under 5" wide, and just barely over 1 lb, the a6600 is the ideal travel camera that doesn't sacrifice pro-level settings and features. It is also a great choice for events and vlogging.
