The Rode NTG2 Microphone is an ideal boom mic thanks to its light weight and slim size. It sports a frequency range of 20 to 20,000 Hz, a sensitivity of -36 dB re 1 V/Pa, a signal to noise-ratio of 76 dB SPL, and a maximum SPL of 131 dB from 48V phantom power. Note about the 48V phantom power: this mic will likely operate with only 12V or 24V sources but it will be starved, which may cause distortion. Alternatively, you can use a 1.5V AA battery (not included) as your power source, making this mic compatible with DSLR cameras that have 3.5mm ports (connect the mic and DSLR with the included 1.5' XLR to 3.5mm audio cable).
The super-cardioid polar pattern and line plus gradient acoustic principle minimize noise at the sides of the microphone, while the front of the capsule reproduces incoming audio signal. The result is greater intelligibility and signal-to-noise ratio when using this mic in noisy environments. It is also is designed to reduce noise caused by handling, rigid mounting hardware, and loose cabling. The enclosure is rugged and all-metal, making it durable enough for run-and-gun, ENG-style use while on the road. This microphone is a great option for documentary work and events.
