Overview

The Nikon Z9 is Nikon's first mirrorless flagship camera and packed with Nikon's leading-edge technology. Covering the needs of both fast-action photographers and high-resolution videographers, the Z9 strives to be the go-to camera for anyone covering subjects where only the highest degree of precision and quality will do. Here are just a few of the standout features of such a system:

  • 8K recording with full pixel readout worthy of the high-resolving power of Nikon's ultra-bright Z lenses. Internal recording up to 2 hours straight thanks to an innovative heat-dissipating system. Enjoy 10-bit color and 4:2:2 sampling in ProRes 422 HQ and H.265 codecs. For post production, there is a 10-bit N-Log setting as well as a Flat color profile. Grab 33MP stills from your 8K footage or take advantage of dynamic slow motion at 120 FPS in 4K.
  • New advances in AF, with 3 dynamic-area AF modes and a new "deep learning" subject detection system for 3D tracking. A new Startlight Mode allows focusing all the way down to -8.5 EV.
  • A powerful processing engine that is 12x faster than prior models for effortless continuous shooting speeds up to 120 FPS at 11MP or 30 FPS at full resolution. Supporting this is a huge 1,000-image buffer capacity (when shooting high-efficiency raw at 20 FPS).
  • Minimal rolling shutter distortion thanks to a full electronic shutter system with support for speeds up to 1/32000 of a second.
  • 1000base-T wired LAN, built-in wireless LAN, and usb-C for various image transfer functions.
  • Improved electronic Vibration Reduction for video, with corrected distortion specifically for wide angle lenses. Capture smooth handheld walking footage with ease.

At the heart of this camera is the large-diameter Z mount system that is compatible with Nikon's sleek and fast Z mount lenses (lenses not included). The larger mount and reduced flange distance of the Z line of cameras means Nikon Z lenses have amazing light-gathering rear elements and ultra-fast apertures. They have been specifically optimized for this high resolution, full frame system. The Nikon Z9 is a powerhouse of a camera suitable for commercial shooters and serious hobbyists alike. It is recommended for events, sports, wildlife, and any creative video project.
