Overview

The Nikon Z5 Mirrorless Digital camera is an entry-level full frame camera that takes the innovative quality of Nikon's mirrorless line and positions it for the beginner market.

Here are the standout features that make the Z5 a powerful mirrorless machine for amateurs and hobbyists alike:

An Innovative Z Mount

At the heart of this new system is a large diameter mount that allows for new Z mount lenses to be equipped with large, light-gathering rear elements and ultra-fast apertures. This is coupled with the Z5's reduced flange distance (the distance between a lens' mount and the surface of the sensor) from 46.5mm in the F system to a mere 16mm. Though this large Z mount is designed specifically for Nikon's new line of ultra-fast Z lenses, it can still be paired with an optional adapter for use with most of Nikon's F mount lenses. They maintain their sharpness, resolving power, and functionality while getting to take advantage of the Z5's large sensor and vast ISO range.

Wide Sensor Sensitivity and Advanced AF System

The backside-illuminated CMOS sensor has built-in focal-plane phase-detection AF pixels. This, coupled with the latest image processing engine, allows you to use 273 AF points that cover 90% of the frame in a hybrid system that is specially optimized for full frame sensors. The Z5 can switch between contrast and phase detection depending on the shooting environment when recording footage.

Rounding this out is a wide 50-102,400 (expanded) ISO range for incredible low light performance, and overall reduced noise compared to other Nikon models. This is all supported by in-body image stabilization that compensates for movement up to 5 stops along 5 axes. This feature can be stacked with VR-equipped lenses or used to provide VR for the first time to F mount lenses without any native stabilization (when paired with the optional adapter).

UHD 4K Video

Capture 4K files internally or over HDMI, grab 8MP stills when recording video, and see your footage really come to life with one of 20 Creative Picture Controls. In-camera time-lapse shooting is also possible with the ability to produce a finished UHD 4K video file directly from the camera.

Big Build Benefits in a Small Form Factor

With dual UHS-II SD card slots, a long-lasting battery, and a weather-resistant build, the Nikon Z5 is ready for long outdoor shoots. The sleek design of the Z5 matches the new line of Z mount lenses.

The Nikon Z5 Mirrorless Digital camera provides incredible possibilities with its light-gathering prowess in a form factor that's both beautiful and practical. It is an approachable multimedia tool that is ideal for everyday shooting.

  • There is currently a bug when pairing 3rd party lenses to the FTZ adapter and the Z5 where files may not be read by Lightroom or Photoshop. The current workaround is to convert to TIFF using Nikon's Capture NX-D software. We are hoping a firmware update from Nikon will fix this soon.
