Overview

The Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S is part of Nikon's new full frame mirrorless system. To support the optical technologies of this new system, a new mount type Z has been introduced. Z lenses take full advantage of the benefits of a mirrorless design.

Lens and Sensor Distance

The distance between the Z lens' mount and the surface of the Z sensor has been reduced from 46.5mm in the F system to a mere 16mm. Having larger optical elements very close to the sensor means fewer aberrations, greater brightness, and better image performance overall. Speed and volume of communication between the lens and camera is also increased.

Control and Customization

Z lenses provide the unique ability to assign certain shooting functions directly to the lens. A special tactile control ring on the barrel of the lens can be assigned to functions like aperture value and exposure compensation, or kept as a manual focus ring by default. Two integrated stepping motor (STM) focus drive systems ensure smooth, silent, and ultra-quick AF performance to meet the demands of video shooting.

Optical Versatility

This telephoto zoom is equipped with Vibration Reduction as well as a specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism that provides greater exposure control, ensuring even and stable performance when working with fast continuous shooting rates. An integrated OLED information panel shows aperture settings, focus distance, and depth of field figures right on the lens.
