For an updated version of this Speed Booster with improved optics, please see the Metabones EF to E Mount T Speed Booster ULTRA II.

The Metabones EF to E Mount T Speed Booster ULTRA is an adapter that allows you to mount Canon EF lenses to crop (APS-C) sensor Sony E mount cameras. It is particularly designed for Super35mm sensor, E mount cameras such as the Sony FS5 and Sony FS700 but also works great with smaller NEX APS-C sensor cameras, such as the a6500. This adapter maximizes a full frame EF mount lens' angle of view and provides a 1-stop increase for the connected camera. This allows a Sony E mount APS-C sensor to use more of the light gathered by an EF lens, which effectively reduces that lens' crop factor while making available to the sensor an additional 1 stop of light for each aperture setting. The T Speed Booster ULTRA supports electronic communication between the camera and lens, including AF, IS, and EXIF (where applicable).

Usage of this adapter with Canon EF-S lenses is not recommended due to the 1.6x crop image circle of EF-S lenses and the Sony NEX 1.5x crop factor sensor. EF-S lenses can be used but expect vignetting and experiment at your own risk. To connect EF/EF-S lenses on full frame sensors, like those found in the a7 series, the "Auto APS-C Size Capture" feature must be used.

Please see the "Notes" section for important information about autofocus and lens compatibility.

  • Metabones EF to E Mount T Speed Booster ULTRA

  • Front Cap

  • Back Cap

  • Detachable Tripod foot

  • Allen Wrench

  • Carrying case

  • This adapter comes with a 1/4-20 thread socket in the foot for mounting stabilization onto the adapter to take stress off of long lenses.
  • This Speed Booster is compatible only with EF mount lenses and not Canon EF-S mount lenses.
  • This Speed Booster is designed for cameras with APS-C sensors. If you are using a full frame E mount camera, please make sure "APS-C/Super 35mm" is set to either "Auto" or "On".
  • This Speed Booster will not operate correctly when trying to use it on Canon's CN-E collection of cinema lenses for still photography purposes. This Speed Booster is functional with Compact-Servo CN-E lenses but note that some do not fully cover APS-C/Super 35mm when paired with this adapter.
  • The first two AF attempts are used to calibrate the lens. Half-press the shutter release button again after that and AF will lock successfully.
  • While technically compatible with any EF mount lens, please take notice if your third-party lens has any mount protrusions, like spikes or levers. These will damage the Speed Booster.
  • Autofocus is supported with this Speed Booster but with certain contrast/phase detection limitations. Please see the notes below about lens compatibility.
  • If you are attempting to pair both a Canon lens with a Canon extender to this Speed Booster, autofocus is disabled if the combined maximum aperture of the lens and the extender is f/5.6 or smaller (higher number). Note that this adapter is not at all compatible with Sony extenders.
  • Use of this Speed Booster with a body using an aftermarket battery grip may result in strange aperture changes. Turn off the battery grip if you experience this. Behavior is not found when using Sony-branded grips.
  • The following E mount camera bodies have been tested by Metabones for use with this Speed Booster:

    • Sony a9
    • Sony a7S, a7S II
    • Sony a7R, a7R II, a7R III
    • Sony a7, a7 II
    • Sony a5000, a6000, 63000, a6500
    • FS7, FS7 Mark II, FS5, FS700, FS100
