Overview

The Hasselblad X1D 50c packs a 50MP sensor inside a small form factor, making it the first mirrorless large sensor medium format camera. Handmade in Sweden, the X1D sports an iconic design and boasts an ergonomic grip and bright, easy-to-read 3" TFT type touchscreen. Thanks to the intralens shutters of the XCD lenses (rentable separately), you can sync strobes and flashes with this camera at all shutter speeds (up to 1/2000th of a second), making this camera ideal for high speed lighting and overpowering the sun. The XGA electronic viewfinder provides bright, crisp viewing of your scene and previews of your images so that you never have to take your eyes off your subject. It is also ideal for shooting in bright conditions. With the dual SD card slots (cards rentable separately recommended minimum write speed is 60MB/s (400x) or better), you can instantly back up your images or fill one card up at a time for extra long shoots. The built-in high-speed WiFi gives you the freedom to preview your shots and control the camera wirelessly using Phocus Mobile. Geotagging is handled by the X1D's built-in GPS module.

This medium format camera also gives you the option to shoot full HD video up to 25 FPS. Microphone and headphone jacks are provided, as well as HDMI Mini. The narrow depth of field of medium format gives an unrivaled bokeh look to your footage and the X1D's rugged and weather sealed body makes shooting on location easy. The playback on the touchscreen includes gestures like swipe and pinch-to-zoom and has plenty of customization options.

The Hasselblad X1D 50c is ideal for photographers seeking maximum resolution and dynamic range. It is also a perfect camera for lighting enthusiasts who want to easily take advantage of high speed sync and for bokeh-loving filmmakers who want to make the most of depth of field effects.

    OVERHEATING WARNING

From the user manual: If you take several captures within a short period of time, the processor in the camera will produce more heat. This, particularly in combination with high ambient temperature, can result in noise in the image files. To prevent this, the camera displays a warning icon when the temperature rises. At approximately 140°F a warning dialogue appears notifying that the camera is temporarily shutting down to allow it to cool.

Our observations: We have experienced shutdown at temperatures as low as 101°. Please exercise extreme caution when shooting video and rapid stills.
