Overview

The Sony a7 IV offers strong performance for both photographers and videographers, making it the ideal hybrid camera. Here are the standout features and upgrades compared to the prior model:

  • Unlimited 4K60p with full pixel readout without brinning thanks to a brand new back-illuminated sensor with a wider 15-stop dynamic range that offers higher clarity and lower noise with more vivid color rendering compared to prior models. Plus, achieve double the compression efficiency while maintaining superior image quality with the XAVC HS format.
  • 7K oversampling when recording 4K30p for detailed 4K results. In-camera 4:2:2 color sampling and 10-bit with Long GOP or All-I encoding with bitrates up to 600Mbps.
  • A newly-developed Focus Breathing Compensation innovation that works exclusively with Sony's E mount lenses to minimize field-of-view shifting to help make rack focusing much easier when recording. Fine-tune your focus for ultra quick switches of your target (also helps with rack focusing) a feature taken from the a1 and the a7S III.
  • Another new feature, Focus Map, allows you to easily visualize depth of field when shooting. Enjoy a useful overlay on live view and immediately see exactly which areas are actually out of focus. Plus, take advantage of AF Assist, which is borrowed from the FX6, to make switching from auto and manual focus a breeze.
  • 5-axis image stabilization with pitch and yaw adjustments built in and an Active IS mode designed specifically for video.
  • Fast Hybrid AF system with 759 phase-detection points and 425 contrast-detection points.
  • A multi-interface hot shoe that enables use with more accessory types, including digital audio accessories. Also equipped is a new signal processing feature that offers incredible wind noise reduction.
  • Plug-and-play USB streaming support so you can go live at up to 4K resolution.
