Tokina ATX AF 16-28mm f/2.8 Pro FX for Nikon
Theft not covered.
This ultra-wide lens from Tokina resembles a mini-me version of the vaunted Nikon 14-28 f/2.8G AF-S; a lens widely regarded as the best wide angle lens ever created by any manufacturer. The two lenses are roughly the same size and both have a huge, protruding front element that cannot hold filters; they also both have that shiny gold band around them indicating they are professional lenses designed to be used on FX camera bodies like the D700 and D3.
So is it as good as the legendary 14-24? We just got this lens and have not had a chance to test it extensively, but from what we could see in some test snaps this lens seems amazing. Shots were razor sharp edge-to-edge, and distortion was very well controlled at all focal lengths. It's an internal-focusing lens so it never changes size as you zoom in and out, and its auto-focus is quiet and very accurate. For the money, this is a superb wide angle lens for Nikon shooters. Check it out if you want something faster than the Nikon 16-35 f/4 VR.
