Lens and Sensor Distance
At the heart of this new system is a large diameter mount that allows for new L mount lenses to be equipped with large, light-gathering rear elements and ultra-fast apertures. This is coupled with the S1 system's short, 20mm flange distance (the distance between a lens' mount and the surface of the sensor). Having larger optical elements very close to the sensor means fewer aberrations, greater brightness, and better image performance overall. Speed and volume of communication between the lens and camera is also increased.
Practical Zoom Range with Added Features
This lens not only covers a popular telephoto focal range but it's also equipped with an Optical Image Stabilizer that supports the S1 system's built-in IS for 5-Axis Dual IS, making it possible to use much slower shutter speeds in low light. The weather resistant build allows it to be used out in the field for sports, wildlife, and more.
Features Fit for Photographers and Filmmakers
Equipped with a special mechanism that suppresses focus breathing, the Lumix S PRO 70-200mm is designed with video in mind. A linear motor achieves ultra fast and silent auto focusing. An integrated clutch focus mechanism provides immediate switching to manual focus. Ergonomics is considered at all angles, including a notch in the lens ring where you naturally place your hand. Panasonic experimented with differently-textured rings to create a lens with the perfect fingertip traction.
The Lumix S line marks a new chapter for Panasonic. The S PRO 70-200mm lens in particular is the ideal choice for sports and wildlife photo and video projects. The The image stabilization, suppressed focus breathing, popular focal range, and thoughtful design pair beautifully with professional features of the Panasonic Lumix S1, S1R, and S1H.
