Overview

The Nikon SB-5000 Speedlight Flash boasts some improvements over the SB-910, including a quicker recycle time, better maximum radio range, and a wider zoom range, all while being slightly more portable. It has a built-in cooling system that vents quickly so that you can shoot up to 100 consecutive full power flashes. This flash automatically detects when you are shooting with a full frame or crop frame sensor camera so that it can select the appropriate illumination pattern.

This compact lighting unit can be mounted onto the hot shoe of your Nikon camera or fired wirelessly optically from either your camera's built-in flash or with a Nikon SU-800 Speedlight commander. For radio firing, you must use a PocketWizard/Radio Popper.

The SB-5000 is the perfect choice for wedding photographers working alone or with assistants. It is also ideal for portrait and travel photographers who need to create the biggest light possible from a very small unit.

Special Note on Radio-Controlled Advanced Wireless Lighting:

If you want to use the SB-5000's native radio receiver feature, you can only do that with the following combinations:

  • WR-R10 + WR-A10 adapters on one of the following cameras: Nikon D6, D5, D500, D850.
  • WR-R10 adapter on the one of the following cameras: Nikon Z5, Z6, Z7, D780, D7500.

The WR-R10 needs to be updated to firmware 3.00 for Radio AWL to work. With the WR-R10 attached to your camera, check the firmware version through the camera menu (it will be signified by a 'W'). Adapters are not included.
