    Photo Memory Card Storage

There are several varieties of photo memory cards available. Learn How to Choose the Right Memory Card for Video and Time-Lapse. Read what each type offers below to find out the one that will best meet your needs:

    - SD: Secure Digital cards are probably the most common type of photo memory card. When you rent SD cards from us, we have many options. The two most common varieties are the older SDHC, which supports capacities up to 32GB, and SDXC which supports capacities up to 2TB.

Both can be found in UHS-I with speeds up to 104 MB/s. Newer cards will often be UHS-II with speeds up to 312 MB/s. Video Speed Class SD cards will have write speeds no slower than 90 MB/s.

    - microSD: These are miniaturized versions of SD memory cards. They can be used in regular SD card slots and readers if you use an adapter. The microSD memory cards can be found in capacities up to 128 MB/s and are common in phones and action cameras.

    - CF: CompactFlash cards are bigger than SD memory cards. They used to be the standard for high-capacity requirements but, increasingly, SSDs are being used for this purpose. CF cards support capacities up to 128GB.

    - CFast: CFast cards are a variant of CompactFlash cards, but the two are not interchangeable. CFast memory cards are found in some video cameras and professional DSLRs. They support higher max transfer rates (up to 600 MB/s vs 167 MB/s). They also better handle fast frame rate shooting.

    - SSDs: We're used to thinking of Solid State Drives in reference to things like laptops, but they are increasingly useful in the video recording industry. SSD media cards support high capacities and high speeds. A 2.5" form factor is the most common, though you'll find SSDs in a variety of chassis types.

    - CFexpress B, CFexpress A & XQD: Type A CFX cards are not interchangeable with Type B cards. They are physically two different sizes. Type A is smaller and has a single PCIe lane vs the Type B, which has 2. Type A are similar in size to an SD card but they are thicker and shorter and will not fit into SD slots. CFX B and XQD cards are interchangeable for many cameras after a firmware upgrade. Be sure to check the latest firmware updates for your camera if it has an XQD slot before pairing it with a CFX B card. makes it easy for you to rent memory cards and other camera gear accessories. This is because you can experiment with many card types to see which best matches your needs before making a long-term investment.
