Description:

The Sony NEX-VG20 Interchangeable Lens HD Camcorder is an improvement over it's predecessor the NEX-VG10 featuring better HD resolution, 24p and 60p recording modes, surround-sound microphone and full manual controls.

Similar to the beloved VG10, the new VG20 continues to offer the ergonomics and stabilization of traditional video-cameras. The VG20 includes a boost in megapixels with 16.1 at 6 frames per second. It also allows for extra control over in-camera image and color processing with Sony's CinemaTone technology.

Video manual controls have been added to make this camcorder function like a pro, including expanded focus for getting quick precision focus; zebra mode to monitor for over/under-exposure, 8 white balance modes for perfect color temperture and focus peaking to keep your shots in sharp focus.

The camera features a surround-sound Microphone built-in with the ability to adjust each of the four stereo capsules to your specific audio needs. If that doesn't work for you there is an input for plugging in external microphones and mounting them onto the hot shoe. There is also a headphone input to keep precise control over your audio levels. The camera has a HDMI output for viewing your video on a compatible HDTV or on an external monitor.

The included 18-200mm zoom features a silent autofocus and optical image stabilization giving you smooth and stabilized video even at 200mm. The camcorder has a bright, high-resolution 3" LCD screen that swivels 180° allowing you to keep focused at awkward angles and two dedicated record buttons for low-angle shooting.

ceenvee703: Things I liked: * Used SD cards for media * Gave a nice DSLR-like depth of field * Auto-focus was useful for more run-and-gun shooting * Easy to handle, compact, light Things I didn't: * Battery was oddly recessed * Touch-screen menus were annoying * One dial controlled all manual settings (iris, focus, shutter speed, etc) * Low-light performance pretty noisy and required lots of gain * Manual zoom (same as DSLR, granted, but still) * Overall seemed more suited for consumer than prosumer, but I guess the price reflects that Happy with the video I captured (and with BorrowLenses service) but not sure I'd consider this as a purchase. For the price you could get a new 5KMkII and a nice lens.
