GoPro's HERO3: Black Edition Camera is an updated and upgraded version of its predecessor, the HD Hero2 wearable video and still camera. Compared to its predecessor, the HERO3 is smaller, lighter and even Wi-FI enabled. Professional 4k Cinema 12 fps / 2.7k cinema 30 fps / 1440p 48 fps / 1080p 60 fps / 960p 100 fps /720p 120 fps and more video capture. For still images, the HERO3 supports 5, 7 and 12-megapixel photos with 30fps burst. Newly advanced camera settings include Looping video, Continuous Photo, Manual White Balance control, and Protune Mode.

Built-in Wi-Fi enables remote control via included Wi-Fi Remote or live video preview and remote control on smartphones and tablets running the free GoPro app, while still being compatible with all GoPro mounts for attaching to gear, body, helmets, vehicles and more. In addition, the HERO3 is compatible with LCD Touch BacPac and second generation Battery BacPac.
