Description

The Nikon 105mm f/2.8 Micro AF-S VR is the go-to lens for micro photography or portraiture work on any Nikon camera body. Think of it as a dual-purpose lens; hold it up and point it at something, and it's a razor sharp 105mm prime lens with Vibration Reduction. In this role it delivers fast focus, unbelievably sharp images and outstanding colors and contrast. Plus you can shoot handheld in low light thanks to the VR and wide aperture.

If you want to do some micro or up-close photography, this is *the* lens to use as it offers a very useful focal length and true 1:1 magnification. Its VR makes a bit of noise, but consider how close you can focus on a subject when you are holding a 105mm lens 12" from your subject!

Whether you're shooting portraits or macro (Nikon calls it micro), this is the lens you want - try it and you will love it.

wjknobles: I rented this lens for a week during September 2011. The quality of this lens is amazing and it opens up a whole new range of shots. The is definitely a learning curve in working with this lens for macro shots, but once you have it figured out the shots you can achieve are spectacular. As always the lens arrived just as promised and was in perfect condition. Return shipping is very simple and both the entire customer service experience and quality of the gear keep me coming back to BorrowLenses.com.

Connie: I've rented several lenses and camera bodies in the last couple of months, preparing to make an FX body purchase. I own a 50mm f/1.4 prime lens, and I wanted to figure out both my next lens purchase and my 'dream team.' This 105mm f/2.8 micro is my absolute favorite with an FX sensor, a beautiful focal length for portraits and general purpose. I had a lot of fun playing with the macro possibilities. I shot a wedding during my first rental period with this lens, and no surprise it delivered gorgeous ring shots. I also did some beautiful flower and insect macro work at our local landscape arboretum. The real reason that I love this lens, though, is the gorgeous images it produces on portrait work. The colors and contrast are absolutely outstanding, and the images are razor sharp. The speed of the lens at f/2.8 (especially on an FX sensor) allows for stunning low light capability. I just returned this lens after my second rental period, which was intended to confirm my purchase plans. Having it in my hands again was a complete joy. It isn't so large or heavy that it's impractical to carry around. I anticipate this will be the lens most often on the d600 that I am about to purchase, and I couldn't be happier about it!
