Description
The Nikon D5100 Digital SLR Camera is the camera for anyone who loves Nikon but has always been jealous of Canon's video features. This camera is a step ahead of many video DSLR's because it can shoot video and auto-focus at the same time. Although previous Nikons have had this feature, the D5100 does it a little better. The swivel and tilt LCD screen is bright, well defined and is a must have for shooting video at awkward high and low angles.

This camera has a HDMI out to use with a Marshall monitor, a GPS input, and a microphone input. The D5100 has four different microphone input settings to fine tune your volume levels. For photojournalists there is a Quiet Shutter Release mode and you can input up to 36 characters into each photo to keep notes.

The D5100 has several auto features such as portrait, nighttime, landscape, macro and action modes. This makes the camera easy to use for anyone interested in getting their feet wet with a DSLR. Also there are many artistic modes including selective color, high key, low key, night vision, color sketch and miniature effect (this attempts to replicate the effect of tilt-shift lenses). One cool thing is that these artistic modes can be used in video mode, although the miniature effect is choppy in video mode. You can also shoot HDR photos and have all post processing done in-camera.

Combine all these features with Nikon's fantastic color rendition and 11 point auto-focus system and you have a great camera for both amateurs and beginners.
