Description
This zoom lens is designed for the APS-C sized sensor found on many Nikon cameras, but it may be used on certain full-frame models utilizing a special function of the sensor. As it stands, this lens will project an angle of view that is the equivalent of a 15-36mm lens in the full frame format. The primary user of this lens will be one who finds standard kit lenses not quite wide enough for their tastes when photographing landscapes or interior views. An added benefit of wide angle optics is their ability to focus extremely close for a unique perspective on macro objects.

Fred: This is clearly a specialty lens. I'd never use it a core part of my kit. However, I had fun taking a variety of shots...including ones of my house that made every room look twice the size (you've seen these kinds of shots many times if you've been on the website of any hotel, especially in Europe!). And of course, you have to deal with the distorted perspective at the edges at the 10mm range--which I know you can fix somewhat in PhotoShop, but I haven't had the chance to try that yet. If I ever owned, or rented, this type of lens again, I'd probably go for a fixed 10mm, since at 24mm, it doesn't do justice to what the lens was intended for. And it's frustrating to think of that zoom range as really a zoom, since 24mm is hardly getting you close to the subject. BTW, this was my first Borrowed Lens rental--it all worked out great. Looking forward to the next time.

Amanda : I used this lens for a landscape shooting trip to the beach & it was a DREAM!! I completely fell in love with this one. The image quality was unbeatable & the autofocus was fast (which was nessacary when dealing with moving water!). Of course you get all the quality & reliability as always with Nikon. I couldn't believe the difference going with a few mm wider lens. I used this on my D90 and D3000 and my friend used it on his D60. HIGHLY recommend for landscape photographers and it's a must purchase item for me now.

wjknobles: I have rented this lens on two occasions and love it. It has always arrived in perfect condition and I have never had any issues with the equipment or service from BorrowLenses.com. This lens is a perfect match for anyone wanting to work with wide-angle shots on a DX-sensor Nikon DSLR ... I am currently shooting a D90 and love some of the shots I have gotten with this lens. Very sharp and for as wide as you can get the lens distortion is relatively minor.

Chris: I didn't have all that many situations that called for it, but when I did use it I found it to be a great lens! Even at longer exposures (1/60) it seemed about as sharp as my 18-200mm DX VRII, despite the lack of stabilization. However, I'd really recommend stopping it down in order to control blur in the edges.
