This ultra telephoto zoom lens lets you bring your far away subjects up close while compressing the distance between the main subject and the background for professional-looking results. Even though it covers a range up to 500mm, its design is relatively lightweight and compact. When mounted on an APS-C size digital SLR camera, it provides a focal length equivalent of 760mm for super ultra telephoto imaging. The optical design of this lens enables you to get as close as 8.2' from your main subject at any focal length, and provides a maximum magnification ratio 1:5 at the 500mm end, allowing for dynamic and impressive pictures of small objects.

Jill: Well, I'm going to save lots of money not buying this lens. I should have read more information before renting but I was looking for a 500mm that I could photograph Hummingbirds and other song birds and I was so disappointed. I was of course, zoomed out to 475 and trying to use f6.3 and all of the pictures which I took on a tripod weren't crisp at all. I was about 50 feet from a burrowing owl and it was so soft I could have cried. According to what I have seen online, I guess I should have increased my f-stop to f8/f9 or bigger for crispness.
