Redrock Micro eyeSpy Deluxe - DSLR 2.0 Rig

Note: Camera is not included in the rental

Description

The eyeSpy Deluxe Bundle is a comprehensive solution for on-the-go, shoulder-mounted DSLR rigs. (Cameras using battery grips and taller camera bodies like the Nikon D3s, D4 and Canon 1D Mark IV and 1DX should use the Redrock Micro Riser to ensure proper alignment with accessories).

The most feature-complete of all the eyeSpy bundles, the eyeSpy Deluxe Bundle includes:

  • • 2x 18" 15mm carbon fiber rods
  • • 2x 9" 15mm carbon fiber rods
  • • Padded shoulderpad with rod clamp
  • • microHandGrip
  • • DSLR baseplate
  • • Rod offset kit (for centering the camera for viewfinder use)
  • • microBalance counterbalance starter kit + one extra weight
  • • microFollowFocus v2
  • (not shown) 3x microLensGears in sizes A, B, and C

Redrock Micro focus rings

The eyeSpy Deluxe includes a set of three micro-focus rings that fit a wide variety of lenses. The different sizes are denoted by the letters A, B, and C. The rings go around the focus ring on the lens and allow the follow focus mechanism to work. You might want to order an optional second or third focus ring so that you can quickly and easily swap lenses on the unit, instead of taking the lense off, removing the focus ring, attaching it to the new lens, etc. If you need the large D-ring (for lenses such as the Canon 100-400mm) please indicate it in the notes as it is NOT INCLUDED by default. For information regarding the various focus ring sizes please see this link at the Redrock Micro site.

John: I would not recommend this unit, primarily because the camera weight is offset to the left on it's rails, and the one forward grip has to be mounted on the right. It is hard to hold the unit straight and on a tripod it sags left. I know you can adjust for all these difficulties, but who needs them. Spend a little more, get the two-handled rig. The other shortcoming is that there is no convenient grip to carry the rig when not in use, nor will it rest easy or evenly when put down. There's always weight on sensitive points. The follow focus worked fine, but to get into the battery case of a Canon 60d, you had to release the camera from it's mount, at least part way, in order to gain access. Not fun if you are in a hurry. Would not use this rig again, ever. But perhaps that's not Borrow Lenses fault, especially if they listen their customers.
