David: The Pentax FA 77mm f/1.8 is a superb lens. I rented this lens for a week to try out with my new Pentax K-5 and see if I liked the 77 enough to shell out the shekels to obtain a copy of my own. Verdict: yes, it is definitely worth the price. The build is solid and and has the feel of a precision instrument. Great resolution right across the entire image. The colors are saturated and contrasty and the bokeh is lovely when the lens is opened up. The only slight negative I could find is that auto-focus is a bit noiser than I would like, but I'm a manual focus sort of shooter anyway, so no problem for me. Overall, a highly recommended lens!
