Note: This rental does not include any batteries whatsoever. By default it comes with the tray that holds one EN-EL3e battery, which is also NOT included. There is an optional tray that holds AA batteries but you must request it. If you use rechargeable batteries in the grip it boosts framerate from 5 fps to 8 fps. You can see the difference between 5 and 8 fps in this Youtube video.
Description
The MB-D10 battery grip for the D700 and D300/D300s is one of those little items that escapes notice more often than it should. Starting at around $19 for a 3-day rental, this little block of plastic and metal can really soup up your photography. For starters, having a vertical grip is something that’s really hard to give up once you’ve used it a few times. The convenience and comfort of being able to shoot in portrait orientation without contorting your arms is addictive. Add to it the fact that you can control the autofocus and exposure settings right from the battery grip and you see why the pros prefer to either shoot with this little attachment or with the bigger bodies like the D3 and D3s, which have these vertical grips built-in. But that’s not all - this is a battery grip, after all, which means that it can hold additional power for those really long shoots. The best part, however, is when you swap out the standard EN-EL3e batteries and tray for the AA tray with rechargeable Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) batteries. Do this and your maximum shooting speed jumps on all compatible cameras from 5 to 8 frames a second. That alone is worth the price of admission. So add this to your next camera and lens rental and watch as you become addicted to the sound of your shutter ripping through 8 frames a second. Just don’t blame us when you find yourself firing it constantly just to hear that sweet sound.
