george: I love this lens. I rented it for an Alaskan cruise. The lens was far better than I am. It brought the bears and glaciers in so crisp and clear while blowing out the background. In a few cases, I opted to bring most everything in focus with a f/18 and was pleasantly surprised. I took over 1200 pictures in Alaska and used this lens for just over 500 of them. The lens was a bit on the hefty side for walking around, but I have a shoulder strap that I attacked to the lens to take the weight off and would recommend if you aren't putting this on a mono or tripod to follow some sort of my example. The image quality is excellent with very little CA (purple fringe) at f/5.6 and above. Some f/4 images at full 250mm had some CA, but that might be due to the available light. The DA* fully lived up to my expectations. Seriously, the only downside I could see about this lens is I want to buy one. If I didn't have the Blackrapid strap, maybe the weight, but as it was... I loved it.
