Dani: I rented this kit to do a location shoot in a park. I knew I wouldn't have access to power, as the location required a half hour hike, and I figured that this kit would be a suitable replacement for my usual studio strobes. Overall, it did get the job done. I wasn't familiar with these particular flash units, so it took some internet search work to figure out some settings (the master flash settings are particularly tricky), but I was able to get the two flashes set up with a ratio as desired without too much fuss. I hadn't worked wirelessly before, but the PocketWizard triggers worked great and were reliable and dependable. I would say the weak points of this kit are the softboxes and stands. The stands were quite large, bulky, and heavy. I shoot with Impact stands normally because they're fairly durable and hold my heavy strobes but are slim and easy to move. I ended up not using the stands in this kit at all and substituting by own with the brackets instead due to the weight and bulk. The kit as is was heavy to haul on the shoot, and the stands weighed quite a bit and were too long collapsed to fit into either of my kit bags that I usually carry a full four light studio strobe kit with Excalibur monolights, modifiers, stands, and cords in. The softboxes were decent diffusion and smaller than my strobe fit collapsible softboxes, but the fastening and mounting mechanisms could use some work. The softbox couldn't be opened to the back, (although the front can be removed through velcro fastenings), so it was difficult to make adjustments to the flash or PocketWizard devices inside the softbox. It was also awkward trying to get the umbrella style center into the brackets due to the pyramid style softbox and the bottom opening. Once set up, the softboxes stayed put pretty well and the lighting looked good, but this kit wasn't as easy to get set up and haul as I would have expected for a kit specified for location shoots. In summary, the kit does offer suitable lighting for location shoots where power isn't accessible. On the downside, the kit as is is quite bulky and somewhat difficult to haul and set up.
