Mandie: I was seriously excited when the FedEx guy showed up with this lens. I popped it on my 30D and ran outside to do some testing. During on-camera review, I was in love with the bokeh and depth from the f/2.8 shots at full telephoto. Once I uploaded to my computer, however... I was sadly disappointed by frequent backfocusing, even at f/16. It is possible that this was a problem with my camera rather than the lens, but when I Googled the issue to try to determine if the problem was possibly the lens, I found that it is a very common problem with this lens. That said, the backfocusing was much worse at the wide end than the telephoto end, and I was able to determine what apertures resolved the backfocusing issue (f/6 and above). The lens did the job I needed it to do, and I returned it early. BorrowLenses.com responded quickly to my email about the problem and offered to send a replacement. My assignment took place over the weekend while I was awaiting a response, however, and I returned the lens early for credit. In all, the lens was underwhelming; I'm looking forward to trying out the new Tamron (http://bit.ly/JBHZmU), much as it pains me to put off-brand glass on my Canon.

Ryan: I rented this lens to use in Indianapolis over the week leading up to the Super Bowl. My first impression was "wow, this is a beast of a lens!!". Its big, heavy, and solid. Depending on the person that could be viewed as either a pro or a con, so I wont list it as either. Although I will say that due to its construction I didnt feel the lens had to be "babied" to not get damaged. Something I noticed that took a bit of getting used to is that the front element extends as you zoom OUT, not the other way around (i.e. the lens is longer at 24mm than at 70mm). Ive had my Canon 60D for almost a year now, and I had planned on this most likely being my next lens purchase. When I got my hands on the lens I was very excited, but upon getting it out into the field I was a bit underwhelmed. I don't mean to say its a bad product, I was impressed with how sharp my photos came out and how good the color was, but my impression came more from a "right tool for the right job" kind of view. Ill admit I feel I would have been more satisfied if I was using this on a full frame rather than my crop sensor. I kept feeling like I should either be able to zoom out a bit wider, or zoom in a bit tighter. I know WHY it doesn't, but I kept running up against one or the other of the focal length limits and had to choose between either not taking the shot as I wanted it, or switching to a lens that would work. Again, I know that doesn't make the lens a poor product, but I felt the limitations of the lens as a tool for the work I wanted to use it for. The USM "full time manual" focus was great to work with, my other Canon lenses focus horribly slowly by comparison. The bokeh the lens produces is beautiful, and the lens speed is faster than I imagined; I was stopping down a lot more than I thought I would need to, and/or using very fast shutter speeds for the majority of my shooting. I was pleased with just about all of the photos I took with the lens once I got them home and started poking around in Lightroom. I think I would summarize my review as this: I have a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 and was planning as buying this lens as my next f/2.8 and relegate the 70-200mm f/2.8 as the "I cant imagine Id use that focal length enough to justify the price tag" lens. After using this lens for 10 days I am starting to consider adding the 70-200mm and getting a more "economical" lens in the midrange as I feel I will usually be shooting either tighter or wider than this lens comfortably captures. Although I feel this is a wonderful lens, I would strongly suggest a "try before you buy" approach, and if you're not familiar with the focal length I might suggest trying it for something casual before you rent it for something critical.

markol0: This is my most favorite lens in all BL inventory. I spent a whole month traveling around Europe with just this one lens, and could not have asked for anything more. the perfect walk around lens that covers almost all situations.

Lisa: I rented this lens about a month ago for my backup camera body for my second shooter. the 24-70mm is a must have lens for weddings. The focal range is a good mid-range and its very fast glass at 2.8. Love it..

Charles: This isn't a lens that I actually rented, because I own it. If you are shooting on a full frame, or APS-H (aka EOS-1D family) body, just get it On a crop body, you might be better off with the 17-55mm, but the 24-70, partiularly if you get a 'good copy' is an amazing lens

Bryce: If you need an all around great lens, this is the one. I fell in love with it while traveling to New York. I packed 3 of my lenses and rented this one and this is the one that stayed on my camera the whole time. My only problem with it was quite heavy, actually weighing more than my T2i. But other than that, the pictures came out phenomenal.

Colleen: This lens is absolutely wonderful! Living up to its L-series name, it produces beautifully sharp, colorful images with ease at every focal length. Its 2.8 aperture produces a gorgeous, creamy bokeh and its 24-70 focal length can handle most standard shots without problem. While it is a bit heavy, the weight is definitely a small price to pay for the quality images it produces. I will DEFINITELY rent this one again (or maybe buy it if I can convince my husband!)

Katie: This was my first "L" series experience as an amateur photographer and wow what a difference it makes! The lens was in great condition and it was easy to ship back since they supply you with the return label. Overall 5 stars! I love the lens and would love to save my money for this one!

jessica: I used for a wedding and shot with it most of the event. I loved it and will use for every wedding I shoot. Its very versatile which most photographers will agree is vital for weddings. Its a must have!

Troy: Ive had this Lens less then 12 Hours and already fell in love with it, i still got a couple of days with it before wedding shoot and already hooked!! I think its a great lens for the first lens i ever rented!!! very fast shipping " On TIME" and earlier then "Expected" dont want to give it back in a few days but its well worth it!! John: I was a little bit leary about renting this lens, because most of the cost of it dipped into what I was making on my assisting gig for a wedding. I was sold as soon as I got it out of the box. Absolutely solid build, and there was nothing wrong with it, not dirt, nothing wrong with the optics. My ex that I was shooting with at the time made fun of me for going with this lens thinking it wouldn't be as good as something wider, but she ended up stealing it for half of the gig. Absolutely beautiful pictures, totally clear, beautiful bokeh. My main suggestion is for you to go out and buy this lens, but if you don't have 1000+ to drop on it, and just need it for a few days to a few weeks, just rent it here. You'll end up making more off of the pictures that you shoot with it then it'll cost you. Can't wait to need to rent it again.

Kevin: Very heavy for a walk-around lens. I use a DIY strap similar to the BlackRapid so it was not an issue but keep that in mind if you rent for a vacation. Loved the photos it produced and the majority required no post work. Wonderful bokeh! Thanks again BL for another no hassle trip.

Ben: I rented this lens for a wedding I shot. It is a beautiful lens! The build quality and smooth operation are just amazing. The wedding was outside, so I also rented a neutral density filter to take advantage of the large 2.8 aperture and the beautiful bokeh of this lens. Some other reviewers mentioned the range of this lens. I used it on a cropped frame camera, so it had the equivalent range of 38-112mm. This range worked perfectly. In fact, it allowed me to get in very close, so I think I prefer it to a wider lens. I always had enough space to step back and get everything in frame. I think this lens is plenty wide enough for all but the very smallest rooms. One final note: be wary of the large aperture. You may be tempted to shoot at f/2.8 (and the lens looks really great at large apertures), but most of the time this will not give you enough depth of field. In most circumstances, I'd recommend stopping down to at least f/4.

Tony: Sharp as a tack throughout the focal length, this lens was a joy to work with. Just holding it in your hands, tells that this is a substantial lens. from 24mm, all the way to 70mm, image quality, just magnificient. Not the fastest piece of glass I had in my bag, but for quality, and just enough fast glass to tackle any situation, the 24mm-70mm is it. I plan to use this lens many times over.

Sean: The 24-70 2.8 L is one of the best zooms on the market. They are sharp, and have all the great ranges you are looking for on a shoot. 24,35,50, and 70 A great all in one lens.

Gabriel: This lens is excellent. Used it for the 43rd NAACP Image Awards Red Carpet. Perfect size not too heavy. My only issue is that the lens cap is way to big. So when you attach it to the lens the opposite way when not in use. You can really zoom in or zoom out because the lens cover completely covers the entire lens. So you have to store the lens elsewhere when not in use. Other then that its a great lens. Photos from the award show red carpet with this lens, can be seen on my Facebook page.

brooke: I am a wedding photographer and I love to try out new lenses. I had heard rave reviews about this lens so I decided to take it for a test drive during one of my weddings. This lens is built very well, it lives up to the L Series craftmanship. It also produces tack sharp images with deep colors. It was so convenient to have a lens that could zoom in but also could capture those wider shots without me having to move. I am a prime lens kind of girl, but I have fallen for this lens!
